Fire Prevention

Hudson Fire Protection District – Fire Prevention Division

The Hudson Fire Protection District’s Fire Prevention Division is dedicated to protecting life, property, and the environment through proactive fire and life safety programs. Our division plays a critical role in reducing community risk by focusing on education, engineering, code enforcement, inspections, and fire investigations. We work closely with residents, business owners, contractors, developers, and partner agencies to ensure a safe and resilient community for everyone who lives, works, and travels within our 95-square-mile district.

Led by the Fire Marshal, the Fire Prevention Division serves as the District’s Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for fire code enforcement. The division administers and enforces the 2018 International Fire Code with appendices, reviews building and development plans, issues construction and operational permits, and provides on-site inspections for new construction, tenant improvements, hazardous materials, special events, and fire protection systems. Our goal is to support responsible growth while ensuring compliance with modern fire and life safety standards.

Community risk reduction is at the core of our mission. The Fire Prevention Division manages a variety of public education and outreach programs, ranging from school fire safety presentations, community CPR training, and participation in local festivals and events. Each program is designed to equip our community with the knowledge and tools needed to prevent emergencies before they happen.

The division also oversees Hudson Fire’s fire investigations team. Our certified fire investigators work alongside Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control investigators to determine the origin and cause of fires, identify trends, support legal processes when necessary, and use findings to inform prevention strategies. We collaborate with local law enforcement, the State of Colorado, and neighboring agencies to ensure thorough and professional investigations.

As Hudson and Lochbuie continue to grow, the Fire Prevention Division remains committed to supporting safe development, strengthening emergency response capabilities, and fostering a culture of safety throughout the district. Through education, partnership, and data-driven risk reduction, we are proud to serve our community and help create a safer future for all.
